Unfortunately, the clock is ticking, the hours are going by. The past increases, the future recedes. Possibilities decreasing, regrets mounting.

victorian diamond and enamel snake brooch
A mid-nineteenth century diamond and enamel brooch in the form of a coiled snake in the shape of an infinity symbol, crafted in 18k gold and accented with black enamel, diamond approximately 0.1 carat, brooch fitting to the reverse, 1.5 in wide by 0.75 in high, circa 1840.
Jewelry featuring snakes and serpentine design grew in popularity during the final years of the eighteenth century and reached its zenith during the Victorian era. The snake motif was popularized by Victoria in her own jewelry choices preceding her marriage, but was greatly increased with the presentation of a ring featuring a serpent by Prince Albert to commemorate his betrothal to the young queen. Snakes have served as an emblem in jewelry and fashion symbolizing eternity, wisdom, and seductive beauty.
